After learning about the strength of triangles and the important role a triangle plays in bridge design, the JEC’s fifth graders faced a design challenge of their own. Using only 30 straws and three feet of tape, they needed to construct a bridge that would span eight inches and hold marbles measured in increments of 20. Following the design cycle, they carefully thought about the successful bridge designs they had studied, planned out their bridge, and redesigned as they tested out ideas. The students are looking forward to testing out the strength of their bridges to see how many marbles they will hold.
