Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest Announces First Ever CommUNITY Mitzvah Day

Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ is pleased to announce its first ever commUNITY Mitzvah Day—a day of hands-on service opportunities for volunteers of all ages. Activities will take place throughout the community on Sunday, April 7.

Offerings include assembling and delivering Passover food packages for home-bound clients of Jewish Family Service of MetroWest and Central NJ, weaving upcycled plastic bags into blankets for the homeless, creating a mural at the Greater Newark Conservancy, making calls to benefit the community through the UJA Annual Campaign and much more. All programs are coordinated with and in support of our Greater MetroWest community partners.

This event also incorporates J-SERVE, when 300 teens from across the community come together to participate in the international day of Jewish Youth Service. Participating teens ages 12 to 18 will gather at the Alex Aidekman Family Jewish Community Campus in Whippany from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will choose from 12 service projects. They will also hear from inspiring teen speakers.

The commUNITY Mitzvah Day is chaired by Michael Elchoness and Joanie Schwarz. Vice-chairs are Shari Broder, David Feuerstein, Caroline Goldstein, Carrie Jaffe, Robyn Laveman, Lisa Olender and Elana Wilf Tanzman. Corporate sponsors include Imperial Dade and Planned Companies.
