(Courtesy of JFNNJ) In a major move to support the security and healthcare needs of northern Israel, Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey has secured over $1.6 million in funding over the past month to bolster the region’s defense and medical infrastructure. The funding will be directed to Federation’s sister city of Nahariya for the construction of additional bomb shelters and to the Western Galilee Medical Center to support its life-saving work.
With this crucial funding, Nahariya, a city that has been on the front lines of rocket attacks, will be able to build additional bomb shelters in strategic locations and schools, ensuring the safety of thousands of residents. The Western Galilee Medical Center, the only major hospital in the region, will benefit from enhanced resources, helping it continue providing critical care under extraordinary circumstances.
Daniel Herz, president of Jewish Federation, emphasized the importance of these efforts:
“Jewish Federation has always stood with Israel, but today, our support is more critical than ever. This funding will strengthen Nahariya’s ability to protect its people and ensure that the Western Galilee Medical Center can continue its vital role in treating the injured and saving lives. These are investments in the safety and resilience of northern Israel’s communities, and we are proud to play a part in securing their future.”
The allocation of these funds is part of Jewish Federation’s ongoing commitment to addressing Israel’s most pressing needs. In recent months, the escalation of threats in northern Israel has underscored the importance of bolstering both emergency shelter infrastructure and healthcare capacity.
Andrea Weinberger, Chairperson of Federation’s Planning and Allocations Committee, spoke about the critical nature of this funding: “Northern Israel’s proximity to active conflict zones means we have to ensure that its people have the resources to endure and recover from attacks. These funds will not only provide immediate relief but will also serve as a long-term investment in the region’s stability.”
Jason Shames, CEO of Jewish Federation, added: “This is what our Federation does best—responding swiftly to urgent needs and delivering meaningful support where it’s needed most. We’re proud to stand with our brothers and sisters in northern Israel during this challenging time.”
Through partnerships with local municipalities and institutions like the Western Galilee Medical Center, Jewish Federation is fulfilling its mission to support Israel and strengthen its communities.
