JFCS Partners With GrowTorah

(Courtesy of JFCS) Jewish Family and Children’s Services of Northern New Jersey (JFCS) is proud to partner with GrowTorah. GrowTorah incorporates Jewish values and Torah lessons into a gardening program for children where they teach them the fundamentals of gardening and land stewardship while tying in lessons regarding the complex relationship between humans, animals, and the earth.

As part of the program, the GrowTorah children engage in food justice firsthand – they decide what portion of their produce to donate and to which charities. JFCS’s Corner Market Food Pantry is a happy recipient of these donations, receiving fresh herbs and vegetables on a regular basis. We’ve been told that the mint and cherry tomatoes are particularly amazing and in high demand!

While GrowTorah currently works with 25 schools across the US, they hope that one day they can be in every Jewish day school across North America, and JFCS wishes them the best of luck in their endeavors. Food Insecurity Services are one of the four pillars of service that JFCS offers the community, and they rely on donations like what GrowTorah provides in order to continue supporting those in need.

JFCS cherishes its partners, whom without, JFCS would not be able to accomplish its mission of empowering people and changing their lives. If you would like to partner with JFCS in any way, please reach out to Michele Wellikoff, Chief Development Officer at: [email protected] or 201-837-9090.
