(Courtesy of JFSCNJ) Jewish Family Service of Central NJ (JFSCNJ) in Elizabeth has joined Alzheimer’s New Jersey to offer a free monthly virtual Alzheimer’s/dementia caregiver support group that will take place on Wednesdays from 1-2:15 p.m. The dates for the groups are Feb. 14, March 13, April 10, May 8 and June 5.
The group, led by Bonnie Freirich, LCSW, JFSCNJ director of dementia programs, is free and open to Alzheimer’s/dementia caregivers in the community, and is run in accordance with the Alzheimer’s NJ guidelines.
Freirich is a licensed clinical social worker with over 30 years of experience providing evidence-based mental health services to a wide range of clients, and a graduate of New York University’s School of Social Work. In addition to leading the caregiver support group, Freirich oversees the innovative coffee house-day program for those who have memory loss. The program takes place three days a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, from 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. at Temple Sholom, 1925 Lake Ave., Scotch Plains, New Jersey.
The support group is for caregivers/family members, but not appropriate for those with the dementia diagnosis. Participants are welcome to join the group at any time but need to contact Freirich in advance to receive the Zoom link. Registration is recommended.
