JFSCNJ Hosts Community Response to Crisis in Ukraine At Cranford Senior Housing

(Courtesy of JFSCNJ) Over 50 members of the Union County community, many of whom are from Ukraine and are Holocaust survivors, came together to show their support for friends and family currently facing danger and uncertainty in Ukraine. The event, coordinated by JFSCNJ social worker Greg Yucht, MSW, and Cranford Senior Housing Social Services Coordinator Karen Pati, was the first socially distanced event held in the facility since the beginning of the pandemic. The residents of Cranford Senior Housing will also organize a drive to donate items needed in Ukraine with the help of local community organizations.

Participants heard words of encouragement from Pati and Cindy Rabinowitz, Cranford Senior Housing executive director. Remarks from Yucht, who speaks Russian, and JFSCNJ social work intern Anna Zubets-Anderson were delivered in Russian and English. Attendees were treated to a selection of Russian, Ukrainian, Yiddish, Hebrew and English songs performed by Cantor Vadim Yucht, who was born in tUkraine.

Contact Greg Yucht, [email protected], 908-352-8375, if you are in need of services for our Russian-speaking population in Union County, New Jersey.
