What an exciting Shushan Purim at JKHA! The middle school sixth graders kicked off the day for the youngest students with a student-created carnival. Middle schoolers also participated in a special Purim Moadim L’STEAMcha activity that focused on bringing simcha to others as students recorded enthusiastic video messages for children in Israel. All divisions enjoyed inflatable fun in the Zuckerman Gymnasium. Festive chagigot were enjoyed by lower school as well. Students became fashion designers for Project Runway—teacher edition! Working in groups they designed fabulous Purim outfits for their teachers who later strutted down the runway showing off the creations with a panel of “expert” judges.

Middle school launched a STEM challenge for Purim in the days leading up to the holiday that was open to all students to design and print a Purim costume accessory. Students designed their ideas in the Kushner Kreators STEAM Lab, conceiving and creating their ideas in Tinkercad and printing them on the 3D printers. There was no input from teachers, and it was entirely self-directed. The remarkable finished products from masks and costume glasses to graggers and costume accessories are on display in the middle school, with students voting on their favorite accessory.
