What a momentous day for JKHA as the whole school was able to celebrate Hakhel. Once every seven years, following the shemitah year in the Jewish calendar, the entire Jewish people, from babies to the elderly would travel to Jerusalem to hear the king read from a sefer Torah before the entire nation. JKHA gathered during Chol HaMoed to re-enact this momentous event. They began in the Epstein-Stein auditorium where they learned about Hakhel through a creative skit and video, then, as a school, “traveled” through the halls to Jerusalem. After much fanfare, complete with trumpets and revelry, “the king” arrived! He offered inspiring remarks about the transmission of Torah from generation to generation and shared words from the Torah with the students. The whole school then rejoiced together with festive singing and dancing! It was a meaningful and uplifting morning that the JKHA students will remember for many years to come as JKHA continues to imbue them with creative and inspirational ways to increase their love of and appreciation for Torah learning.
