Eighth grade at JKHA is an exciting year as students build towards their advancement to RKYHS. The grade had a chance to relish their time together with a trip to Camp Bernie. On this outdoor education trip, students enjoyed the time outdoors together climbing the ropes course, playing sports, archery, team building and bonding activities and more. The day concluded with a delicious barbecue.
Seventh graders enjoyed their own grade program with a robust academic, social and emotional roster to address different issues that the students care about. Marni Weinberg, the lower school director of Student Services, ran an organization workshop, with a focus on how students can organize their lockers in a way that they can easily find what they need for all their classes. Students then went to their lockers to put all the new tips they learned into action. Gila Guzman, an integrative nutrition health coach, joined students for a presentation about the Five Pillars of Health, focusing on healthy eating and nutrition as well as the different components of living a healthy lifestyle, relieving stress and adding mindfulness into their lives. The day continued with team building activities designed to encourage teamwork, collaboration and inclusion. Female students ended with a challah bake where they discussed the halachot of hafrashat challah and boys had a special opportunity to sing and share words of Torah in a kumzitz with their rebbeim.
