JKHA/RKYHS Celebrates Revised ‘The Kosher Palette’

Twenty two years ago the Joseph Kushner Hebrew Academy produced a cookbook that has become a kosher cooking classic and a staple in homes around the world. “The Kosher Palette” cookbook sold 80,000 copies, and has been out of print, leaving so many unable to obtain copies of this classic—until now! A revised anniversary edition of “The Kosher Palette” was released this fall and the Kushner Parent Activities Committee held an exciting event to celebrate its release.

After mingling over some “light bites” including many favorite recipes from the cookbook, there was a special “tips and tricks” presentation by “The Kosher Palette” one and two co-editor Sandra Blank. Blank shared the process for the revised edition and let attendees in on must-have cooking tools, as well as hacks, to make some of the recipes in the book their own.

The new “The Kosher Palette” edition features nutritional advice, healthier alternatives and details on ingredient swaps. Danielle Stark (JKHA ‘09/RKYHS ‘13), registered dietitian and nutritional consultant for the revised cookbook joined the event as a featured speaker. Stark led an engaging conversation about “creating healthy eating habits for your kids” with universal lessons and messages.

Many current parents, alumni parents and alumni were in attendance for this fabulous event that was co-chaired by Gail Hausdorff and Sara (Hausdorff) Fellus (JKHA ‘05/RKYHS ‘09). The origins of “The Kosher Palette” stemmed from the JKHA/RKYHS community, where many parents were recipe testers and countless parents attended tasting parties while the cookbook was being put together. The event last week held at the JKHA/RKYHS building was a wonderful way to celebrate the revised anniversary edition as the cookbook becomes a new staple in the kitchens of a whole new generation of homes.
