Linking Northern and Central NJ, Bronx, Manhattan, Westchester and CT

Bergen County–For the past 50 years, Jewish National Fund has been honoring local residents with its prestigious “Circle of Excellence” awards. Beginning with the late New Jersey State Senator Matthew Feldman, JNF has been selecting individuals from Teaneck who have worked for the land of Israel and for the local Jewish community.

Honorees for this year’s annual event will be Beryl and Harold Steinbach from Congregation Beth Sholom in Teaneck who will receive the prestigious “Circle of Excellence” award; eleven members of Congregation Rinat Yirael in Teaneck (Passi Rosen Bayewitz, Janet & Ken Hoffman, Eric Kessler, Murray Leben, Nathan & Shari Lindenbaum, Sheryl Schainker. Chanan Vogel, Dov & Netanel Wiener) who were part of Congregation Ahavath Torah’s mission to Israel during the Operation Protective Edge mission to Israel this past summer. Dov Wiener, President of Rinat and his son, Nethanel, will be accepting the Sderot Tulip sculpture fashioned from the shrapnel of a Kassam rocket fired over Sderot. This sculptor will be presented to Congregation Rinat Yisrael as an acknowledgment of the wonderful support given to the children and families of the Sderot Indoor playground during the war.

The Community Service Award will be given to David and Richard Heisler, proprietors of Butterflake Bakery Catering, a store that has been at the same location for over sixty years. This tribute marks Butterfllake’s constant high quality kosher baking for the residents of Bergen County and beyond, and the community food donations offered daily by Butterflake to any community organizations or schools that need their help.

Guest speaker at this event will be Yedidya Harush, the Israeli shaliach (emissary) from the community of Halutza, which was established seven years ago by the evacuees from Gush Katif. Proceeds from this event will go towards the maintenance of the Sderot Indoor Playground and the building of a Dental Clinic for the residents of Halutza and its surrounding settlements in the Negev area.

This annual event will be held Monday evening, December 8 at 7:00P.M. at Congregation Beth Sholom, 354 Maitland Avenue in Teaneck. Catered by Ma’adan, this Buffet and Dessert Reception will bring together supporters and lovers of the Land of Israel.
