‘Jump Into Shape’ Is for Girls, Too!

(Courtesy of Jump Into Shape) With few organized sports for kids this past year, Jump Into Shape ( www.jumpintoshape.fun ), a fitness program designed to build a healthier body for your soul, jumped (pun intended) on the opportunity to fill that void when a member asked if her younger sister could join a class.

“We saw our own daughter miss out on basketball and other physical activities she enjoyed,” said Moshe Moskowitz, founder and head trainer. “And here we are with a jump-roping program that’s helped many adults stay healthy and fit. Why not offer a program designed especially for young girls?”

When Moskowitz floated the idea of a girls’ program to his members, the response was overwhelming. Though that didn’t surprise him. “Jump roping easily becomes a family activity. Many of our members are husband and wife, father and son, mother and daughter, and even siblings. Exercising with others is excellent motivation. It’s not surprising that young girls want to get in on the fun.”

And fun it is! Girls’ classes are set to the latest, upbeat Jewish music and combine jump roping with bodyweight exercises that kids love. Dova Moskowitz, a ninth grader at Naaleh High School for Girls and Moskowitz’s daughter, leads the girls, ages 8 to 10, through a mix of jump-roping sets and exercises like seal jacks and frog squats (aka touchdown squats). Girls from Teaneck, Bergenfield, Passaic, Springfield and Washington Heights come together on Zoom once a week for 30 minutes to jump along with Dova, have fun and work up quite a sweat.

“It’s so much fun to work out with these girls each week,” said Dova. “I love their energy and watching them improve their skill and endurance each class.”

The next five-week Jump Roping for Girls program, which began on Tuesday, April 6 at 6:00 p.m., is open for girls ages 8 to 10 years old and includes a jump rope adjusted to their height. To register, visit www.jumpintoshape.fun/classes.
