I wish to comment on Jonathan Tobin’s article, “Harris Is a Centrist Choice for Biden” (August 12, 2020). The title is misleading and deceptive. One would think that Kamala Harris is a centrist, moderate Democrat, worthy of considering on becoming our next president if Joe Biden does not complete four years in office. Therefore, we might conclude, one should consider voting for the Biden/Harris team.

As one reads into the article, we realize that Mr. Tobin is only evaluating Harris from the point of view of her policy towards Israel. We are American Jews, living in the United States, the vast majority of us do not plan on going home to Israel. Our decision who to vote for president must not be guided strictly by a politician’s views on Israel.

Kamala Harris is an extreme left-wing politician. She wants to give free health care for undocumented immigrants, opposes deportation of illegals, wants Medicare-for-all, easy state-funded abortion, the Green New Deal, and compared ICE, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to the KKK.

How can he write, “She is the sort of candidate to warm the hearts of centrists, even if she tried hard to sound like a progressive?” She is a progressive!!

If Joe Biden wins the presidency, he will not be leading the country with centrist policies. The progressive left will, with people like Kamala Harris, Bernard Sanders and AOC leading the way. They may ruin this country financially and our safety. We may be forced to go “home.”
