Kaplen JCC Launches New Wise Aging Program for Seniors

The Kaplen JCC on the Palisades is launching Wise Aging, an inspiring four-session program for people in their 60s and 70s that focuses on ways to make the most of our time, while increasing our wisdom, resilience and spirit as we age. The course will be facilitated by Mona Fishbane, Ph.D., clinical psychologist, couples therapist, and author and Toby Glick, MS, a psychotherapist with extensive experience leading groups, who will incorporate mindfulness techniques, reflective discussions, Jewish text study, poetry, journaling, and more to achieve the desired goals. Together, they will cover topics such as relationships with adult children and spouses, cultivating well-being, developing nourishing friendships, forgiveness and reconciliation, living with loss and creating a legacy.

This program, based on the successful book “Wise Aging,” written by Rachel Cowan and Linda Thal, provides invaluable tools for people looking to cultivate new social, emotional and spiritual insights to achieve a more fulfilling and active older age. Aging certainly presents a variety of challenges, but what people often overlook is the fact that it also presents opportunities and this is what “Wise Aging” is all about.

The four session class will meet on Mondays, October 15 and 29 and November 5 and 19 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.. Cost is $115 for JCC members/$140 public. Class fee includes the “Wise Aging” book.  There is also a free introductory meeting on October 4 from 11 a.m. – 12 p.m., where participants can meet with the facilitators to learn more about the program before they join.  To register, call Esther at 201-408-1456.
