Lamdeinu’s Summer Semester Begins June 1

(Courtesy of Lamdeinu) Join Lamdeinu beginning Tuesday, June 1, and fill your long summer days with Torah!

On Mondays, Dean Rachel Friedman will lead “Parshanut HaMikra: What Is Esav Really About?” from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This class is open to women only, and will analyze the figure of Esav in Tanach, parshanut, and later Jewish thought.

On Tuesdays from 9:15 to 11 a.m., Rabbi Gedalyah Berger will teach “Talmud: Masechet Sanhedrin Perek 4.” This insightful class, which is offered to women only, will consider topics such as judicial seniority, how detailed a testimony must be, and the responsibilities of witnesses.

On Tuesdays from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Lamdeinu welcomes the newest addition to its faculty, Rabbanit Yael Leibowitz. Rabbanit Leibowitz will present a three-part series open to men and women titled “Honor and Shame in Tanach.” This series will explore the social structures of honor and shame and how they play into the narratives and laws of the Bible.

Lamdeinu begins preparing for the Three Weeks on Wednesday, June 9, with a six-part series on Eikhah and Nachamu taught by Rabbi Yitzchak Etshalom. “The Prophetic Voice of Anguish: A Text Study of Megillat Eicha” will take place on Wednesdays from 10:15 to 11:30 a.m. and is open to men and women.

Celebrate wedding season on Thursday mornings from 11 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. with Rabbi Gedalyah Berger. His four-part series, “‘Count Your Blessings’: The Who, What and Why of Wedding Halachot” will delve into the halachot of birkat erusin, the wine needed for the brachot, the practice of needing a minyan at the chuppah, and more. This class is open to both men and women.

Prepare for Shabbat by diving into the weekly parashah and haftarah with Rabbi Daniel Fridman. “Parshah and Haftarah Pointers” will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and is open to men and women.

Finally, join Lamdeinu and Matan for its inaugural joint program. On Thursday, July 1, Dean Rachel Friedman will present “The Dr. Jack & Devorah Friedman Memorial Shiur: Reflections on Eretz Yisrael and Parashat Pinchas.” The Memorial Shiur will take place online from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and is free and open to the public.
