Lawsuit Against the Colony in Fort Lee Is Resolved

A religious discrimination lawsuit against the Colony in Fort Lee, brought when the building management abruptly stopped providing a Shabbat elevator and any assistance with elevators for Sabbath-observant residents, has been resolved. The plaintiffs and defendant in the lawsuit have “agreed on terms to a complete resolution of the case,” according to the plaintiffs’ attorneys at Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP. Both sides told The Jewish Link they could not speak publicly about the details. The complaint sought relief under the Fair Housing Act, the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination and additional federal and New Jersey state laws. The plaintiffs had asked the court to order the Colony to reinstate the Shabbat elevator and provide assistance with elevators to Sabbath-observant residents on Shabbat.
