I was deeply disappointed by the article by Bradley Martin trying to whitewash Jack Lew’s record in regard to Israel (“DC Insiders Praise Jack Lew, Reported Candidate for Ambassador to Israel,” Aug. 17, 2023). The fact that “Washington Jewish insiders” praised Lew gives me little comfort. I don’t know Lew and he could be a fine, upstanding Jew and human being, but his record regarding Israel is dismal.

The article quotes those who claim that Lew’s support of the disastrous, failed Iran deal and the back-stabbing failure to veto the U.N. Security Council Resolution 2234 shouldn’t negatively reflect on his candidacy. Why not? The Iran deal provided billions to fund Iran’s terror and Resolution 2234 denied Israel’s connection to the Temple Mount and other holy places and promoted BDS. It came out later that Obama didn’t just not veto the resolution, but rather actively promoted it. Rather than standing up to these outrageous, anti-Israel measures, Lew chose to side with the most hostile to Israel administration ever.

At a time when Israel is facing numerous challenges and decreasing support in the U.S., we need an ambassador who will stand for the truth, not bow to partisan politics.
