Lifelong Westfield and JFSCNJ Plan Program on Remote Activities for Seniors

(Courtesy of JFSCNJ) Lifelong Westfield and Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey (JFSCNJ) will be presenting “How to Bring a World of Remote Activities into Your Home,” on Tuesday, October 5, at 3 p.m. at E’Port Commons, 205 1st Street, Elizabeth. This free program will be led by Carlos Herrera, The Ross Family Virtual Senior Center—FSCNJ Uniper Coordinator. All who register and attend will be entered for a chance to win a $25 AMEX gift card.

Uniper is a virtual senior center technology device that is connected to a client’s television set along with an accompanying camera. Unioper can also be connected to a client’s computer, tablet or mobile device. The technology allows clients to join live, interactive social activities and classes provided by Uniper and by Jewish Family Service of Central New Jersey through programs developed by JFSCNJ’s Activity Coordinator, Lisa Tognola, LSW, CDP.

Clients are also able to explore a video library on a variety of topics, including travel, trivia, history, health and wellness and music. In addition, clients can use the device to make video calls and send pictures to family, friends and healthcare professionals through Uniper’s HIPAA-compliant software. Grants have made the program available for free to residents of Union County, New Jersey. A private pay option is also available.

Carlos Herrera is a lifelong Elizabeth resident who received his Master of Public Administration degree from Rutgers University, Newark, and a Bachelor of Public Administration from Kean University. Before assuming the position of coordinator of the Ross Family Virtual Senior Center at JFSCNJ, he served as the assistant project manager of Lifelong Elizabeth, an age-friendly community initiative aiming at making Elizabeth, New Jersey a place to grow up and grow older.
