For the first time, Lubavitch on the Palisades school decided to have regular classes on Election Day. After a busy chag season, the students got to enjoy a day of learning and to experience a mock election.
After learning about the election process, political parties and important issues, students had a chance to vote in a mock election. Students filled out registration forms in class. They exchanged these for ballots. They went into the secret voting booths and marked their choices. They each received an “I Voted” sticker.
When asked about the experience, fourth graders Hadas Eini and Lizzie Perl said they were nervous. “It made me nervous to choose just one. It’s a very important decision,” said Hadas. Fifth grader Baer Cheslow said, “It was cool to talk about politics and to simulate an election.”
After a day of voting excitement, the results came in. It’s Donald Trump: 77 votes and Hillary Clinton: 48 votes. The students were curious to see how their school results compared to the results for the nation.
