(Ma’ayanot Sports) The Ma’ayanot varsity basketball team hosted the Heschel Heat on Sunday afternoon. Both teams’ defense controlled the beginning of the game, as the Rapids held a 7-5 lead after the first quarter. In the second quarter, the teams adjusted their play, and the Rapids’ offense took off. Senior captain Tali Klein (12 points) had a strong quarter, including being fouled on a layup which allowed a 3-point score. Despite Heschel’s strong screening plays, the defense held off Heschel from scoring. Led by senior captain Leah Weiss (seven points) and junior Hannah Bromberg (11 points), the team took a large lead by the end of the first half. Scoring contributions from junior Ella Ashendorf (four points), seniors Yael Bodoff (seven points), Dara Levy (three points) and Mayan Kapustin (two points) all added to a victory for the Rapids. Despite the score, juniors Sara Motechin, Paya Gellman and Aliza Poloner attacked the boards with intensity and fought for every loose ball. The team has two final games as it concludes the regular season this week and gets ready for the playoffs.
