Ma’ayanot Students Enjoy Torah and Fun at Mishmover

Mishmover, an annual Ma’ayanot tradition, combines the learning of Ma’ayanot’s acclaimed Bruce Ritholz z”l Mishmar program with the fun of a sleepover. On February 13, over 300 students enjoyed learning, ruach, chesed projects and bonding with friends. Rabbi Zev Prince, assistant principal for Co-Curricular Life, and Ora Schrier, director of Religious Programming, coordinated the program, themed “I Love Shabbat.”

“The atmosphere was fun and positive; it was pleasant just to be in school overnight with friends,” said sophomore Neshama Rudnitzky. Junior Aliza Kahan felt that Ma’ayanot and the parent council sponsors and volunteers were “very generous. They gave us great food and brought us great activities.” Rabbi Aryeh Cohen, camp rabbi at Camp Dina and rebbe at DRS, delivered the keynote address, “Experiencing the Incredible Kedusha of Shabbos.” Sophomore

Shiurim included: saving lives on Shabbat with Rabbi Shay Schachter, Shabbat morning tefillah with Halacha teacher Yael Weil, the kedushat zman of Shabbat with Principal Rivka Kahan, a Hilchot Shabbat Q&A with Rabbi Ari Zahtz, and observing Shabbat in different communities, courtesy of Ma’ayanot’s NCSY-JUMP team. Students also enjoyed many hands-on Shabbat-related activities, including challah baking with the Challah Fairy, a 39-melachot demonstration with Rabbi Josh Rossman, a cholent cook-off and a tish with Dean of Students Bailey Braun.

Mishmover has something—more than one thing—for everyone. With hands-on learning, connecting with community rabbis and leaders, informal education from teacher panels, hearing Torah from fellow students and bonding with Sinai students, Yachad membersand school friends, Mishmover is a highlight of a Ma’ayanot student’s year!
