Ma’ayanot Drama Club Presents ‘My Aunt’s Son Vinny’

The Ma’ayanot drama club, in conjunction with Black Box Studios, is preparing to perform My Aunt’s Son Vinny, a comedic adaptation, written by Leora Kohn (‘16), of Dave Launer’s famous screenplay My Cousin Vinny. The community is invited to two performances, on Tuesday, March 29 and Wednesday, March 30. Both performances will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Ma’ayanot High School, located at 1650 Palisade Avenue, Teaneck.

My Aunt’s Son Vinny highlights the journey of two young New Yorkers who, while traveling through rural Alabama, are put on trial for a murder they did not commit. The play highlights the comical attempts of their cousin, newly minted lawyer Vincent Gambini, to defend them. Much of the humor stems from the contrasting personalities of the brash Italian-American New Yorkers versus the reserved Southern townspeople.

This new production of My Aunt’s Son Vinny is professionally directed by Black Box Studio Artistic Director Matt Okin, and student directed by Ma’ayanot junior Shoshana Dimbert. Shira Gelb (‘17) is the Assistant Director, with Tech and Stage Management provided by students Shalhevet Abenaim, Hannah Buhasira, Leora Wasserman, and Chava Zakheim. Set design is by area professionals Frank Avellino and Gerard Bourcier.

Ma’ayanot’s production of My Aunt’s Son Vinny features a cast of 17 students of all grade levels, including: Rachelli Blech, Esther Brodsky, Shayna Dulitz, Chana Ingber, Shoshana Klein, Leora Kohn, Devora Krischer, Penina Krischer, Lily Meiseles, Yael Miller, Meira Prager, Ariella Rand, Dora Schechter, Leah Stone, Nava Weisel, Dena Winchester, and Maya Wind.

Tickets, available in advance, are $10 each. For more information please contact Matt Okin at [email protected].
