Ma’ayanot Rapids Varsity Soccer Start the Season With a Win

For the first game of the season, the Rapids varsity soccer team started out cautiously. In the first period, sophomore, Dafna Levine scored unassisted within five minutes. Bruriah answered back right away with a goal. The Rapids returned hungry and aggressive. Levine knocked in 3 more beautiful goals, with one assist from junior Aleeza Berkowitz and another from freshman Esther Avidan. Avidan also knocked in two solid shots, one assisted by Levine. Senior captain Sophie Dubitsky scored a goal with bullet speed at the 3 minute mark.

Neither team scored in the second period. Senior captain and goalie Denny Tammam was still focused and had not let in another goal since the first period. Defensive players Michal Mizrahi, Chana Waintraub and Abby Stiefel allowed Bruriah few clear opportunities. Junior Mashi Cohen imposed a lot of offensive pressure on the Bruriah goalie.

The third period started out 7-1 and the Rapids continued with 2 more goals from Levine, 1 from Avidan and Berkowitz from Levine’s assist.

This was an excellent start to the season and the Rapids hope to play as competitively on Thursday night against Hillel.
