Ma’ayanot Varsity Soccer Tops Central to Win the Chip

After an exciting 16-4 win in the semifinals against SAR, Ma’ayanot was ready to take on Central in the championship. The game took place at Leonia High School with many fans from both teams.

The game started off with strong plays by Ma’ayanot and Central. After a few minutes Central scored the first goal of the evening. The Rapids kept their heads up and continued to play strong. Sophomore Dafna Levine had the first goal for Ma’ayanot; she scored off a beautiful assist from freshman Esther Avidan. Levine scored again unassisted, and yet again from another assist from Avidan. Dafna had an amazing hat trick in the first quarter and continued on. She scored her fourth goal off an assist from, goalie, Deny Tammam. The quarter ended with Ma’ayanot up 4-1.

The second quarter began and Avidan was determined to score, and score she did. She had a beautiful unassisted goal, which she followed seconds later by another unassisted goal. Avidan scored her third goal of the evening off a great assist from Levine. Central remained in the game and put a second goal in. Before the half ended Levine had a goal assisted by Avidan, bringing the score to 8-2. The first half was filled with excellent defensive plays by juniors Aleeza Berkowitz and Michal Mizrahi.

At the beginning of the second half, both teams went in ready to leave it all on the court. Avidan took a shot that was just a little off but Levine was able to put in the rebond. Levine scored again assisted by Avidan.

The final quarter of the game consisted of Avidan scoring 2 goals. Central responded with another goal, making the final score 12-3. The last quarter was a great one as we watched the seniors, Sophie Dubitsky, Chana Waintrub and Abby Stiefel (or more commonly referred to as Abs of Steel), and goalie Denny Tammam, finish off their well-deserved championship win.
