Main Ingredient to Provide Kosher Food for St. Mary’s General Hospital

(Courtesy of SMGH) In a meeting at St. Mary’s General Hospital it was decided that Main Ingredient will provide kosher food for patients, visitors and staff at the hospital. Main Ingredient has provided a menu for use at St. Mary’s that will be used to order food for next-day delivery. The dietary staff will make the menu available to patients, visitors and staff, and will then email or call their orders to Main Ingredient, where the order will be acknowledged for next-day delivery.

“It is all part of our overall program to accommodate the religious Jewish population of Passaic-Clifton,” said Ed Condit, CEO of St. Mary’s. “We have been working the past couple of months to ascertain that our facilities and services will be acceptable to the community. With the BOD’s approval, we brought on George Matyjewicz to help with this important plan. George is the central communication link for the community, as well as a well-versed hospital executive and he has been guiding us to make sure we do everything correctly. Main Ingredient has been one of our moves.”

Moishe Goldberg, owner of Main Ingredient met with Ed, George and key staff members to discuss the feasibility of providing kosher food to the hospital. “This plan is easy to accommodate, and should be good for the community,” said Moishe. “And we are also working on having a cooler at the hospital where people can buy kosher food in the cafeteria. There are a number of kosher workers and outside staff at the hospital, and this will be an important courtesy to them. The hospital is really going full speed to accommodate the community.”

The hospital also considered koshering the entire kitchen and offering all kosher meals but decided to hold off on that for now and to take this step instead. If the patient census continues to grow with kosher patients, then they will explore this option again.

Main Ingredient recently opened a brand-new facility at 113 Main Ave., Passaic. But, their story begins in Jerusalem, Israel, in the year 2000 where Moishe Goldberg opened his first store, a gourmet bakery that quickly caught the attention of both the locals and Americans living and studying in the Holy City. In collaboration with world-class bakers located there, Moishe created a mouth-watering variety of traditional and gourmet baked goods and slowly added a health-conscious line as well. They then moved to Canada where they expanded with a wholesale branch that shipped products throughout the United States and Canada, and then a full catering operation. Now in Passaic, they moved to the next level—their restaurant—The Main Ingredient, that provides both traditional and cutting-edge kosher food to the discerning consumer. With a menu of some comfort-food staples as well as trending and health-conscious options, Moishe reaches his customers and offers the best of all worlds.
