(MGBL) The MGBL Girls 2022 season came to an end this week as each division held championship games.

The weekend kicked off with the second grade division as Congregation Ahavath Torah defeated Congregation Bnai Yeshurun. Ahavath Torah was led in scoring by Hannah Gervis and Ilana Stein.

The 3/4 grade girls saw the undefeated RLK Interiors face off against Dr. Saul Lejtman – tenaflysmiles.com. RLK advanced to the finals with a buzzer beater in their semifinals game, but saw their dream season come to an end in an equally thrilling game. With less than 10 seconds on the clock in regulation, Tenafly Smiles’ Lizzy Scharf hit a foul shot to tie the game at 13 and then scored the only three points in overtime, as Tenafly Smiles took home the title. Tenafly Smiles’ Layla Moer was crowned team MVP as one of the team’s top defensive players.

In the 5/6 division, another undefeated team looked to complete their perfect season as Ohel Yitzchak faced off against The Rothenberg Law Firm – injurylawyer.com. Behind early scoring from Ayelet Strulowitz, Rothenberg jumped out to a 10-3 lead. However, Ohel Yitzchak buckled down and led by Orly Hoffer’s 10 points in the fourth and fifth periods, Ohel Yitzchak pulled ahead and won the game.

The day closed out with the 7/8 championship game and the top seeded The Basketball Team taking on Nutrition by Bess. Despite a balanced scoring effort, led by Arielle Fleischman’s nine points, Nutrition fell just two points short of the upset and The Basketball Team finished their undefeated season with a championship.

Thank you to all the players and the parents for an amazing season and we look forward to having everyone back in Fall 2023.
