Moriah Middle School Gardens With GrowTorah

This week Moriah middle school students had the special opportunity to learn about shemitah in the GrowTorah garden! Students learned some of the halachot pertaining to shemitah and had the chance to see the process in action in one of the garden fields. After discussing some ways in which farmers preserve their crops, students then had the chance to try it out themselves and work on their own pickling of cucumbers! Each student created their own pickling jar, filled with different spices and cucumbers, which they were able to take home. They learned about the process of pickling and even about how kosher dill pickles got their name. Everyone is looking forward to hearing how they taste in about a week and to future programs in the shemitah series this year!
