Moriah Seventh Graders Learn Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration

The seventh grade students are busy learning all about photosynthesis and cellular respiration! Having completed a unit on cells and the functions of cell organelles, the students are now learning about some of the processes that occur in the cell. To understand the process of photosynthesis, students have been creating a 3D model using different colors of Play-Doh and toothpicks to create the molecules used. Students first created each of the elements needed— carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen—and then formed them into the molecules needed—water and carbon dioxide.

Students then reformed these molecules into the products of photosynthesis and cellular respiration—glucose and molecules of oxygen. During this whole procedure, the students took pictures of each step and will then create a poster illustrating the process of photosynthesis. Can’t wait to see how they all turn out!
