MTA Seniors Visit Museum of Jewish Heritage

MTA seniors visited the Museum of Jewish Heritage and had the opportunity to learn about the vibrant Jewish communities that thrived prior to World War II. Students also participated in a workshop on ethical wills, where they studied several ethical wills that were written to the children and grandchildren of those who perished at the hands of the Nazis during the Holocaust. These ethical wills serve as a mandate regarding themes of ethics, morality and what it means to be part of Klal Yisrael. They inspire us to reflect on the core principles that we strive to live our lives by. “At the close of the program studying ethical wills, an array of our talmidim presented with rare grace, elegance and depth,” shared maggid shiur Rabbi Tanchum Cohen. “This day strikes me as our fulfillment of the Gemara in Berachot (5a) that says one’s spiritual diet needs an element of yizkor lo yom ha-misa; Occasionally recognizing and reflecting on the temporary quality of our stay in olam ha-ze enables us to inject the benefit of long-term perspective into our day-to-day decisions and choices. The ethical wills segment particularly highlights this concept very effectively.”
