Members of the Yeshiva University High School for Boys (MTA) sports management club had the unique opportunity to receive a behind-the-scenes tour of Red Bull Arena, the home of Major League Soccer’s New York Red Bulls.
Upon arrival, the students were greeted by Bill Wiswesser, the senior director of operations, who spent about an hour with the group in the media room talking about his background and what he does, and answering the myriad of questions that were posed to him. He discussed what his role entails as he oversees all arena operations, how he ended up with the job and even shared some of the more fascinating crises he’s had to manage (such as when an accident shut down the primary road to the stadium just before a game and when a racoon ended up loose in the stadium).
After the Q&A, Bill lead the student group through the various spaces in the building—including the home and away locker rooms, the suites, club spaces, concourses and the field. It was an incredible and enlightening experience, capping off another exciting year of MTA’s one-of-a-kind sports management club.
