Naaleh had a fantastic and successful launch of their inaugural Book Day with the book “Tuesdays With Morrie” by Mitch Albom. The day started off with a keynote address by Shera Dubitsky, a therapeutic coach, who shared some incredible takeaways including, “Who I am around is who I become,” “Not every day will be my best day—I’ll try again tomorrow,” and the concept of a “chavrusa with Hashem.”
After a quick muffin, coffee and hot cocoa break, the students participated in a book club with members of the Naaleh faculty. Together, they closely read several passages from the book while journaling their reflections. Their second session focused on “Torah With Morrie” and different Torah perspectives on how to leave a living legacy.
The event culminated with a moving dvar Torah from Rabbi Yitzi Hurwitz, an inspirational speaker and Chabad shaliach currently living with ALS.
Naaleh graciously thanks their sponsors, and their English Department Chair Elana Kook, for organizing this incredible event. It was a meaningful way for the students to reflect on a text together, bring awareness to the experiences of those suffering with ALS, and to help frame the importance of having hakaras hatov in all aspects of life.
