Mrs. Schneier’s studio art classes and Señor Meneses’ Spanish students joined together for an exciting collaborative session introducing the world renown Mexican artist Frida Khalo. Khalo is best known for her uncompromising and brilliantly colored self-portraits that deal with themes of identity. Following a slideshow and discussion, students began sketching their own symbolic self portraits on acetate, adding a colorful border in Khalo’s iconic Mexican folk style. Both classes enjoyed the fusion of Mexican culture, language and art.
