Nazi Camp Liberator Speaks at Valley Chabad Eternal Flame

(Courtesy of Valley Chabad) On Sunday, March 10, Valley Chabad Eternal Flame held a fascinating evening with Alan Moskin, a Nazi camp liberator. Moskin told over his incredible story of the liberation of the Mauthausen concentration camp and the horrors that he saw there. About 150 participants were in attendance.

Alan Moskin was drafted into military service at the age of 18 and served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the 66th infantry, 71st Division, part of General George Patton’s Third Army. Moskin’s outfit fought in combat through France, Germany and Austria during which time he was promoted in rank from private to staff sergeant.

Moskin shared about the horrors of the camps and what he experienced as he liberated them. “It is something one can never forget,” he says.

This was the first session of the Eternal Flame 2019 Teen Fellowship program this year, where teens learn about the Holocaust firsthand. Through study, discussion and trips, the teens learn to carry on the eternal flame. The teens will spend a weekend this month in Washington D.C. at the Holocaust Museum and participate in the AIPAC conference.

Eternal Flame, a project of Valley Chabad, is generously supported by a grant from the George and Martha Rich Foundation. For more information about this program, please contact Rabbi Yosef Orenstein at 201-476-0157 or email [email protected].
