The National Council of Jewish Women Bergen County Section (NCJW BCS) is making the weekends happier for some local children! At its next general meeting, members and volunteers will pack 1,000 child-friendly, healthful goody bags, which will be donated to the Center for Food Action for distribution. This is double the number of “snack packs” they filled last year! The meeting will take place at Temple Emeth, 1666 Windsor Road, Teaneck, on January 16, 2017 at 12:30 p.m.
The snack packs are distributed by the Center for Food Action to children in eight local elementary schools. The teachers discreetly place the packs into the students’ backpacks when they are out of the classrooms. The contents of the snack packs include juices, mac and cheese, cereals, energy bars and other healthful foods. Many children who receive free or reduced-price school meals are hungry on weekends and these weekend snack packs are part of an effort to reduce childhood hunger in local neighborhoods.
The NCJW BCS is encouraging members and guests to volunteer in this important project. There is no charge for the event.
