With thousands of American children learning remotely this fall, a group of Frisch students and faculty are trying to make a difference. Shortly after the COVID-19 shutdown began, Frisch added a new extracurricular: the Discovery Read Aloud Club. At that point, Frisch—along with the entire country—was virtual. Today, most private schools are open, but many younger children in public schools are still not in school. The Discovery Read Aloud Club hopes to reach those kids—locally, nationally and around the world—and support at least one part of their education back.
The club has created a YouTube channel that includes videos of Frisch students, faculty and friends reading children’s books out loud. It is meant to boost literacy and help children continue to learn in the midst of the pandemic. “I love knowing that I can help children learn just by reading a story out loud,” says Discovery Read Aloud member Ana’el Sobol.
So far, the channel has received thousands of views and reached hundreds of unique viewers. Spread the word! The Youtube channel can be accessed via the following link: https://tinyurl.com/DiscoveryReadAloud.
