New Year’s Day Concert Brings 350 People Together Across Bergen County

On Jan. 1, Bergen B’Yachad hosted its second annual New Year’s Day Jewish Unity Concert, featuring the renowned band Soulfarm. The event brought 350 people together to Temple Emeth in Teaneck, representing 22 shuls across Bergen County. With the mission of strengthening community ties and bringing Jews together, the concert created a joyful and meaningful experience for attendees of all ages.

Soulfarm, featuring Noah Solomon, C. Lanzbom and Ben Antelis, delivered a performance that delighted both kids and adults alike. Children danced with shakers provided for them, while adults enjoyed the uplifting atmosphere and music. The highlight of the evening came when Solomon stepped off the stage with his drum, inviting the children to join him in making music together. The room was filled with energy, joy and the palpable feeling of connection.

“It was a joy to see the Temple Emeth Social Hall filled on Chanukah with such a diverse cross-section of the Jewish community. In just a short time, Bergen B’Yachad has become a leader in organizing events that promote Jewish unity, and we were honored to host this one,” said Rabbi Steven Sirbu, who has served Temple Emeth for over 20 years.

But the event wasn’t just about entertainment — it was about leaving a lasting impact. Each attendee received a card with 12 suggestions for simple actions they could take throughout the year to help build stronger connections and create a more unified community.

The note on the card summed up the essence of the evening beautifully: “It’s the small actions that truly make the world a better place. Never underestimate the power of a single kind act — it has the potential to brighten someone’s day, spark a connection and bring warmth to their heart. As we carry the light of Chanukah into the new year, let’s reflect on how each of us can do small, meaningful things to connect our community and spread kindness. Each small effort contributes to a brighter, stronger and more connected world. Together, we can do this, one simple act at a time!”

The event was made possible thanks to the collaboration of numerous local shuls, including Bais Menachem, Beth Aaron, Beth Sholom, Jewish Center of Teaneck, Lev Le’Daas, Netivot Shalom, Ohr Saadya, Sephardic Congregation of Paramus, Temple Emeth, and Young Israel of Fort Lee. Each partner played an integral role in bringing this event to life, reinforcing the message that Jewish unity is achievable when we work together.

As attendees left the concert, many spoke of the joy they experienced and the inspiration they felt to take the event’s message into their daily lives. “The energy and joy in the room were incredible. It didn’t matter where people daven or what school their kids attend — everyone came together — and that was the most powerful part,” shared one participant.

The 2nd Annual New Year’s Day Concert was a reminder of how music, shared experiences and intentional actions can bring us closer as a community. Bergen B’Yachad continues its mission to create events that connect people across Bergen County, strengthening the bonds between individuals, schools and shuls.
