New York City Mayoral Candidates Visit SAR Academy

(Courtesy of SAR Academy) While visiting the Bronx Jewish community, New York City mayoral candidates Eric Adams and Andrew Yang each stopped by SAR Academy last week to learn more about the Modern Orthodox day school located in Riverdale. Welcomed by principal Rabbi Binyamin Krauss, each candidate remarked upon arrival about their excitement to discover a building filled with happy students enjoying in-person learning. As they toured SAR Academy, the candidates were impressed by both the design of the building and the joy and energy felt throughout.

SAR students were excited to greet each candidate, and exchange some elbow bumps and questions. Both Yang and Adams, visiting separately, were genuinely eager to hear from students about their in-school experience this year and even asked for suggestions on ways to improve the city and education.

Students shared many questions and suggestions, including “Why do you want to run for mayor?” “Can you build more schools without walls?” and “We need more recycling!” A common request heard was that the candidates declare a law of no more homework!

“It is important as educators that we teach our students about the world around them and how government functions so they understand the value of sharing their experience with those who both serve in our government and strive to represent us,” said Krauss. “I was so proud to see our students engage in meaningful dialogue with both Mr. Yang and Mr. Adams and ask thoughtful questions that demonstrate their constant interest in learning and represent us as a school so beautifully.”
