NJ Physician Assisted Suicide Bill Takes Effect

The appellate division of the New Jersey Superior Court on Tuesday, August 27, dissolved a lower court order to block the the Medical Aid in Dying for the Terminally Ill Act. Bergenfield physician Rabbi Dr. Yosef Glassman, who brought the lawsuit against the state, said he will appeal.

“MD-assisted suicide in New Jersey throws a dangerous wrench into the delicate patient-doctor relationship and sabotages the efforts of all those in the medical field who are dedicated to preserving lives, while minimizing pain, up until the last natural breath. Anything short of that is a euphemism for state-sanctioned murder,” he said.

The law allows physicians to prescribe life-ending drugs to terminally ill patients under certain conditions.
