I have been attending the NORPAC mission to Washington, DC, for many years. I have noticed that attendance at this event has unfortunately dwindled over the last few years (I take no personal offense). Are we to conclude that Israel no longer needs the United States Congress and/or that Israel is safe and can go it alone? If at any time in the previous 50 years there exists an existential threat to Israel, on two borders no less, it is now. Previously, I have written letters to the editor of this publication railing against the lack of participation only following the previous missions. This year I am trying to be proactive and guilt people into clearing their schedule three months in advance. Notwithstanding attempts at conditioning aid as of late, President Biden has gone beyond everyone’s expectations in supporting Israel to the detriment of his progressive base. Munitions resupply, aircraft carrier support and attacks on the Houthis are something we should not take for granted. The halls of Congress need to hear and see our dollars and loyal support. Many of us had no problem blocking out over a week for trips to Mexico, the Caribbean or Florida. Is one day too much to ask when Eretz Yisroel was just invaded and continues to be similarly threatened? The mission is Wednesday, May 15. Be counted, please.
