Not Your Mother’s Glatt Express

Teaneck–What’s a nice, young, recent YU graduate doing greeting customers at the Glatt Express Supermarket on Queen Anne Road? A great deal it turns out. It isn’t merely that Dani Secemski’s mother, Tammy, bought the establishment, the oldest kosher supermarket in Teaneck four years ago; but now Dani has joined the family team, bringing a passion for quality, gourmet food and a new, young dynamic to this continuously evolving business. “I jumped at the opportunity, as soon as my parents asked me if I wanted to join the business,” Dani said. “It was a perfect chance for me to use my degree in accounting and my business acumen and to reinforce my sense of community.” Dani’s innovations and creativity over the last several months have made the shopping experience at Glatt Express a most pleasurable one.

Although Glatt Express Supermarket has been around for over 28 years it prides itself in constantly evolving. Now they are concentrating on the kosher consumer who recognizes the pleasure that gourmet cooking and eating can bring. The Secemskis ensure that only quality ingredients and the finest cuts of meat are sold in their store. The Glatt Express butcher department features specialty Black Angus cuts of meat that are more marbleized for added flavor. All of their meats are bred in the United States – not imported from South America – which explains why certain specials are not always available. The butcher department also carries many varieties of poultry including duck, squab and goose for the discerning palate. Dani confided that even several renowned private chefs make Glatt Express their primary supplier.

In the past few months, under Dani’s guidance, several new innovations have added to the store’s popularity. In their recently opened sushi department, one can purchase many varieties of fresh sushi prepared throughout the day by an in-store sushi-chef. Your favorite sushi can also be personally prepared ahead and ready for you when you arrive to shop.

Adjacent to the Sushi display is the enticing, well-stocked, prepared food section of Glatt Express, under the expert management of the establishment’s new catering manager and chef, Alan Solomon, who brings with him over 24 years of experience in kosher food catering. Alan can help you with either your day to day choices and with delicacies to enhance your Shabbos and Yom Tov tables, as well. If there is any specialty item you want, just call, fax or email the store to request it and it will be personally prepared for you using only the freshest and most delicious ingredients. Especially for Rosh Hashanah, there will be an additional assortment of delicacies, including cooked fish dishes, homemade kreplach, roasted lamb shanks and fish heads as well as Middle Eastern delicacies like homemade kibbeh and lahmajun. All prepared deli items at the takeout are available at half price. To promote good health, all of the catering department’s delicious kugels and soufflés are nutritious and gluten free. Finally, Glatt Express will now also be available to cater your Smachot, featuring their festive pareve or meat menus. And if you just happen to visit the store an hour before closing on Erev Shabbos you can receive a 50% discount off all prepared items at the deli counter.

The catering department is only one of the attractions in Glatt Express. An assortment of baked goods from as many as 10 different suppliers are featured daily. The enticing fruits and vegetables in the produce department are of the highest quality and they will enhance any meal. As Dani walks around the store, he is also happy to be able to direct customers to gourmet or specialty ingredients in the grocery section, such as tamarind paste and pickled lemon zest, which they might have difficulty purchasing elsewhere.

Of course, no trip to Glatt Express is complete without a relaxing visit to Lazy Bean, the cozy cafe adjacent to the store. Glatt Express even offers a personal shopper service where you can relax with your friends at and enjoy one Lazy Bean’s homemade waffles or crepes or perhaps a Cholov Yisroel Yogurt treat along with your coffee, while your food order is being filled and packed for you. And for those times that you can’t make it to the store, Glatt Express is now offering delivery service to all of Bergen County, and to other areas in New York and Passaic, West Orange and Livingston. As an added bonus, your very first order will be delivered to you free of charge

Primarily, Dani Secemski reiterates, customer service is Glatt Express’ main priority. “We are here to help our customers. If there is something you need that we don’t have, or something you would like to share with us, please contact us at [email protected]. We look forward to serving you.”
