Ohr HaTorah of Bergenfield Runs HASC Chesed Event

(Courtesy of Ohr HaTorah) On Sunday, July 26, the sisterhood of Congregation Ohr HaTorah in Bergenfield ran a creative family chesed event to benefit Camp HASC. During the Nine Days, in the beautiful outdoor space that the congregation has been using for the outdoor minyanim, families got together to pack camp backpacks full of camping supplies for the many campers who were not able to participate in the full regular program of Camp HASC summer 2020.

The event brought out families who have not yet had a chance to get together at the shul, and created a strengthening of local communal bonds, while also working to make something special for the HASC campers and their families.

The congregation packed 100 backpacks full of sports equipment, music and summer surprises which have already been delivered to some of the HASC families around the country! Many in the congregation have worked at HASC, and even without that connection, sisterhood co-presidents Tamar Gross and Robin Aschkenasy explained that the time was perfect for the families and children to be together united in kindness, in a summer where even small children were aware of the changes to their own summer plans and could really feel and understand the need of the campers as they were packing their bright and colorful bags.

We are grateful for this beautiful and clever display of love and support for HASC.
