Orthodox Forum Plans Event On Women in Public Prayer

The Orthodox Forum of Edison/ Highland Park invites community members to a talk by Dr. Shana Strauch Schick, Yeshiva University research fellow, on “Women in Public Prayer: Historical Framework for a Contemporary Question.” This event will be held online on Sunday, October 18, at 10 a.m.

Dr. Strauch Schick’s presentation provides a historical overview for this very current issue of women’s presence in public prayer spaces. This presentation explores the history of women’s presence in holy spaces from the ancient Temple to modern day synagogues.

Dr. Strauch Schick is a fellow of the Center for Israel Studies at Yeshiva University and teaches Talmud and Halacha at Michlelet Mevaseret Yerushalayim in Jerusalem and Drisha Institute in New York. In 2011, she became the first woman to be awarded a PhD in Talmudic Literature from Bernard Revel Graduate School at Yeshiva University, where she also completed an MA in Bible. She has had articles published in several academic journals.

Dr. Strauch Schick grew up in Highland Park, davening at Congregation Ohr Torah in Edison and is a proud graduate of RPRY. Following the presentation, the moderator will pose questions entered online to Dr. Strauch Schick.
