OU Singles-“Two Nights Of Laughs”

The Orthodox Union Singles Connection, in partnership with a variety of Manhattan synagogues, will present “A Night of Laughs” twice in June, one for an audience 25-35, the other for singles 35 and over.

The program for singles 25-35, will be presented on Thursday, June 6 at The Jewish Center, 131 West 86th Street.  The version for singles 35+ will be held at the new Lincoln Square Synagogue, 180 Amsterdam Avenue, on Thursday, June 13.  Each will feature a Chinese buffet at 7:00 p.m. followed by the show at 7:30.

Both programs are sponsored as well by Congregation Ohav Sholom; West Side Institutional Synagogue; Congregation Ramath Orah; Kehilat Rayim Ahuvim; Manhattan  Jewish Experience; Congregation Shearith Israel/Spanish and Portuguese Synagogue; Young Israel of the West Side; The Jewish Center; Congregation Ohab Zedek; and Lincoln Square Synagogue.

The June 6 program for younger singles is sponsored as well by YU Connects/ Yeshiva University Center for the Jewish Future and will feature stand-up comics Joel Chasnoff and Eli Lebowicz.  Joel Chasnoff is not your grandfather’s Jewish comedian.  His comedy is clever, sharp, insightful, biting and never based on stereotypes – making him vastly different from the Borscht Belt comics of old.

Eli Lebowicz won the Last Comic Standing contest at Yeshiva University, his alma mater. He has performed at many college campuses, as well as comedy clubs in New York City, including Caroline’s on Broadway, Standup New York, and Gotham Comedy Club.

The June 13 event will be headlined by John DeBoer.  It has been said that there are only two ways you can go in life after making a mistake. Learn from it and move on or don’t learn from it and stay where you are. John DeBoer has chosen a third route – write a joke about it and share it with the masses.  His nerve-hitting show flows from the devious side of childhood to the never-ending pressures of our times.

“The synagogues of the West Side are joining in co-sponsoring the comedy nights of June 6 and 13, to provide windows of opportunity for singles to meet,” said Frank Buchweitz, OU national director of Community Services and Special Projects. “The OU Singles Connection events recognize and are acting upon the need for bringing singles together in a low- key, non-pressured atmosphere with a diversity of programs for singles of all ages. Comedy nights provide the ice breaker for a warm and friendly atmosphere perfect in which to make an acquaintance.”

For both events, early bird special is $18; $25 afterwards and at the door. Pre-registration deadline for the 25-35 age range is Thursday, May 30; the 35+ age range is Thursday, June 6. Register online at www.oucommunity.org or call 212-613-8300
