In an effort to have Parshat Shemini and the laws of Kashrut come alive, RYNJ hosted Rabbi Amram Cohen to speak to the Middle School students.
Rabbi Amram Cohen has pioneered an innovative method of teaching the laws of kashrut of animals, birds and fish to students. In a hands-on presentation, Rabbi Cohen brought the subject alive. He discussed the various halachot while exhibiting all sorts of props—skulls, claws, paws, and hooves—along with life-like models, both facsimiles and preserved actual animals. To the delight of his RYNJ audience, Rabbi Cohen brought along some live animals. This interactive and experiential presentation helped the RYNJ students have a better understanding of the simanei kashrut.
