Pesach in Virginia: Matzah With a Side of Cherry Blossoms

Rabbi Yisroel David Bacharach is beginning a new Pesach program at the Lansdowne Resort and Spa in Virginia, the apex of his long career in kitchens and kashrut. The proprietor of Potomac 18, a top Maryland kosher caterer, Rabbi Bacharach has loved cooking since he was a child. He has worked all over the world, cooking with the most renowned chefs and attending to the highest kashrut standards. When the opportunity arose to put all his experience to work designing a Pesach program at a beautiful venue, Rabbi Bacharach knew it was the right time.

Rabbi Bacharach said Lansdowne has all the facilities families want in a resort: golf, including a PGA course; tennis courts with lessons available; swimming pools; and a full gym and spa. “It’s a gorgeous property, just redone,” said Rabbi Bacharach. The program will include a day camp for children, with tracks for different ages, and a teen lounge; entertainment; shiurim by Torah scholars and lectures by prominent speakers.

The entire hotel will be kosher for Pesach, under Orthodox rabbinical supervision, and guests can choose communal or private Seders. Rabbi Bacharach said he is planning menu choices so everyone will be comfortable. He will have cholov Yisroel available and gebrochts and non-gebrochts menu options, all from Potomac 18’s new 40,000-square-foot executive conference center with a 20,000-square-foot state-of-the-art kitchen.

If real estate is about location, location, location—the Lansdowne is the sweet spot for an April vacation: warmer than the Northeast and just a car ride away. Kathleen O’Connell, director of sales and catering, said guests can take advantage of many planned excursions into Washington, D.C. “It’s cherry blossom time, a beautiful time to be in D.C.”
