We love Pesach. The memories that we have of everyone visiting with us will never be forgotten. We hope that our grandchildren will also always remember their special experiences in Montreal.
We remember making the chrein on our back deck (sometimes surrounded by mounds of snow), each young child having the opportunity to chop the charoset and go on special trips to the Dollar Store with their Zaidie, where each one was allowed to pick not one but two special items. Everyone came traipsing home with their own bag, big smiles on their faces.
Those were the days when the Dollar Store sold things that were truly one dollar. One of the most anticipated activities at our home prior to Pesach was when Bubbie would open her “tie store.” Since most of our grandchildren are male, we would purchase at least 20 ties and display them on the dining room table prior to the Seder, allowing each “shopper” to take his pick. This also included our sons-in-law. This tradition has continued in our family at whichever home we are planning to spend Pesach.
We watch our children now making their own Pesach. It thrills us to see them sitting on their back decks making chrein and frequently singing the niggunim that they learned at our seder table. Nina’s mother was in a choir as a child in Brooklyn. We think that the choir director’s name was Coopersmith (not sure), and Nina brought many beautiful tunes to our seder table as a result of that experience.
We watch and are thrilled at the beautiful sederim that our children, together with their families, now provide for us. We are blessed over and over again.
We wish everyone a chag kasher v’sameach.
