Professor Moshe Horn Addresses Today’s Issues at RKYHS

In an effort to continue partnering with school parents and supporting the efforts of the area yeshiva day schools in regards to a universal stance on substance abuse, RKYHS students heard from Cardozo Law professor Moshe Horn about the challenging legal issues facing teens in today’s society. Horn, who has worked extensively within Jewish day schools, spoke frankly and candidly with the students about the potential legal ramifications of a variety of situations they may find themselves in.

He offered advice for what to do if they find themselves in an uncomfortable situation, discussed the dangers and consequences of a number of behaviors, how to make sure they have a smart digital footprint, the permanence of everything they put online and how to trust and act on your instincts. He impressed upon them, using examples from his teenage clients, how one bad choice can alter their life forever. Horn spoke about these topics in-depth afterwards to the seniors.

Horn also engaged with parents on these topics later that evening for a parent-focused program. The program was designed to help parents support children’s healthy choices and provide parents with the content, context and communication skills to help their children understand the concerns accompanying addictive behaviors, the potential risks of illegal actions and the perils of abuse.

Prior to his current role as a private practice defense attorney defending students and assisting their families in difficult situations, Horn spent a decade as a prosecutor.
