Is Qatar responsible for the collapse of the talks in Cairo? A Fatah leader told the Al Hayat newspaper that Qatar threatened recently to expel the head of the Hamas political bureau Khaled Mashaal if the terror organization agrees to the ceasefire outline mediated by Egypt.
Israeli officials accused Mashaal in recent days of sabotaging the formulation of a permanent ceasefire agreement and placing demands on Israel each time that could not be met.
The senior level Fatah official told Al Hayat that Hamas asked Egypt for Qatar to have a position in formulating a permanent ceasefire and also demanded that the Qatari Foreign Minister or the head of the Qatari Intelligence be permitted to participate in the talks.
A senior level Palestinian official told the newspaper that Egypt consistently refused the request, because Qatar did not officially apologize for their position towards General Sisi taking over Egypt in 2013.
