RCCS Lets Patient Focus on Recovery

I appreciated Ms. Glick’s article about RCCS (“Spotlight on Rofeh Cholim Cancer Society,” July 6, 2023). I have no doubt that all those access-to-world-class-doctors-in-the-middle-of-the-night stories are true. In my case, they engaged the world-class specialist team (to review my case) without me even knowing who was doing the review (and, of course, at no cost to me).

I want to highlight the words “patient can focus on recovery” because this is the essence of this remarkable organization. While Hashem (through his shluchim, the doctors) are taking care of the big picture, RCCS does its part to preserve the quality of life of the patient and the family so the patient can focus on recovery. I’ll highlight one service and opportunity in which each one of us can participate (because it offers various denominations). Even with the best of insurance, expenses pop up (pharmacy, co-pays etc.) that may or may not be covered (or simply may not be worth it to make sure to keep receipts for the 14 cent co-pay). One can appreciate that during treatment everything becomes overwhelming, like simply choosing which credit card (or FSA or Flex-benefit) card to use at any time.

The patient’s goal is “focus on recovery.” RCCS offers a co-pay card (sponsorships available) for these (sometimes really annoying) invoices. This type of service is just one tiny example of how RCCS puts themselves inside the mind of the patient and creatively figures out how to remove some of the stressors. They just “get it” and they do everything with the utmost of compassion. Mi k’amcha Yisrael.

This organization is quite worthy of our support (www.rccscancer.org/donate and dryveup.com/rccs/bergencounty). May the zechus of participating in their fundraising be a shemira so we never require their services.
