Remembering Rabbi Gabriel Maza, z”l

Rabbi Gabriel Maza, z”l passed away on December 26, 2023, the 15th of Tevet.

Rabbi Maza was the senior rabbi emeritus of the Suffolk Jewish Center of Deer Park New York. He was ordained by HaGoan Rabbi Moshe Feinstein at Mesivta Tifereth Jerusalem of America. Rabbi Maza was a member of the New York Board of Rabbis, Board of Governors. He was the past president of the Suffolk Board of Rabbis and he was instrumental in establishing the Suffolk County mikvah.

As the president of the Long Island Board of Rabbis, Rabbi Maza was the driving force behind the “Anti-Semitism/Anti Bigotry Law” in New York State. At the time, Governor Mario Cuomo said to Rabbi Maza, “Rabbi, you got your law, now see that it is implemented.”

Rabbi Maza is survived by his wife, Edythe; their daughters, Sharon and Devra; and his sister, Gail Schulman.
